I have been involved with Bronllys Well Being Park CLT Ltd from the initial inception with our President Lydia Powell and Acting Secretary Linda Hughes. Our passion was stemmed when Bronllys Health services were being reduced, moved to Brecon or reorganised as we felt the Hospital should remain at the heart of our community.
Our aim being to support the development of Bronllys site with the needs of local people being highlighted, recognised and realised where reasonably possible, as we may have increased access to funds, grants, resources and support which can assist the Health Board.
I have been a member of Powys Community Health Council since 2014, as a Welsh Government appointee and voluntary third sector member where I continue to work as a full member and chair of Radnorshire and Brecknock Local Committee. I am passionate that those who need to use our health care system are offered high quality services whenever required hence my reason for being a CHC representative is to aid, ensure and promote this in practice.
The particular skills I feel relevant to the BWBP CLT Ltd Chair role include being; A Retired Senior Nurse Manager (Professional Development Lead Nurse) promoting the development, training and implementation of strategies, policies and health care standards. I was responsible for establishing and developing links with local, regional and national organisations to promote, enhance and facilitate high standards of care, for the delivery of patient focused care services.
My nursing career involved being, a Senior Nurse, Parkinson’s disease Nurse Specialist, Hospital Manager, Matron, working in South Africa as a Theatre Manager, undertaking Military service (serving as a Nursing Officer during Op Telic 1 in Iraq) and implementing the Royal College of Nursing Clinical Leadership Programme for the multidisciplinary team (the first MDT programme in Wales) and the first 203 Welsh Field Hospital programme. Recently I have become a volunteer caseworker for SSAFA.
I assisted in the development of the Fundamentals of Care Care Standards which remain the set standards of care throughout Wales and it’s monitoring process, together with developing ‘Information Technology’ initiatives in line with Informing Healthcare strategies and initiating Telehealth and Telecare programmes and also lead a 'Respect and Dignity Campaign' to improve patient care services.
The passion I feel to ensure the success of Bronllys Well Being Park CLT Ltd continues to be strong with the energy of those involved being exceptional.
Bronllys Well Being Park (CLT) Ltd Chair
